 Artist's Technique Working from inside his ten-foot by ten-foot camera obscuras, "dark rooms", Richard Gaskins photographs flowers, figures, butterflies and landscapes onto archival photographic paper up to sixty-four square inches! Infusing handmade textures during long exposures adds a quality very similar to the French Cliché Verre technique of printing during the 1800's. This results in photographic images that are deceptively similar to finely detailed oil paintings. His intimate compositions are appreciated for their warm, color saturated tones and enormous scale. Richard has rediscovered the hands-on approach to fine art photography. As the subject matter is positioned outside the camera, the artist works from inside the camera: composing the image, controlling the focal length, exposure time, etc. Without using enlargers, negatives or digital manipulations, Richard creates his fine art photographs during the exposure process only. |

| Black & White Images
Richard uses highly archival fiber-based black & white photographic paper to create his large-scale negatives and contact prints. This artist produces each print with a handmade contact printer he designed and built himself. In limited editions of 25, each print is multi-toned and signed by the artist himself. For projects which original signed artwork is not a necessity, we currently offer resin-coated (RC) prints of Richard's black & white imagery. These prints are untoned, but a great alternative for smaller budget projects. Black & white photography commissions are currently quoted on a per-project basis. Color Monprints All of Richard's color photographs are made on Ilfochrome Classic Deluxe paper. When properly preserved, the manufacturer guarantees this paper for 200 years. This material is very durable, and will not fade from direct exposure to light. Since Richard photographs directly onto this color positive paper, no negatives are needed. Each original work of art contains the most detailed texture and warmest color saturation possible. Reprints are available on selected color works previously sold, in smaller sizes only.
